We Must Protect Our Teachers
Teachers do not just provide an education; They provide structure, counseling, patience, support, and a moral compass.
For those in favor of arming teachers, they may argue that having a gun or a weapon of any sort in the hands of a teacher will increase the safety and security of the school.
With the growing number of mass shootings in the US, it’s a legitimate concern that school officials need to take seriously. Therefore, having a teacher who’s well trained in handling a firearm and knows how to protect their students can prevent casualties and save lives.
On the other hand, there are also concerns with arming teachers, and those against it argue that the school environment isn’t the right place for weapons. It can escalate situations rather than mitigate them, and children may also have access to the gun.
It can be challenging to control the weapon if a student were to grab it and cause harm to others. Also, there’s always the possibility that the teacher might misuse the gun or the weapon can accidentally discharge and cause harm to innocent students.
Regarding bulletproof backpacks, some say that these backpacks can provide an extra layer of protection for students during a mass shooting. It can give parents peace of mind knowing that their children are somewhat safer with a bulletproof backpack.
