Each day 12 children die from gun violence in America. Another 32 are shot and injured.
Every number you see stands for a person, often a child, with hopes, dreams, and loved ones who cherished them.
We wondered about the children who were represented by these numbers. What did they want to be when they grew up? What was their favorite color? What made them laugh?

There were more school shootings in 2022 -46- than in any year since Columbine. This mirrored America’s broader rise in gun violence as it emerged from the pandemic.

Over the past year, hearts have been shattered by the war crimes committed against children in Ukraine (over eight thousand civilians have already been killed in that conflict), and yet Americans are almost completely numb to the horrors experienced by children here.
